             abstract = "Acknowledging the benefits of it, as well as the motives and the 
                         consequences of the increase of the water bodies, the present 
                         paper aims to specialize this growth in the municipality of 
                         Formigueiro, State of Rio Grande do Sul. We used tools made 
                         available by imaging processing and GIS software, such as ERDAS 
                         IMAGINE 2013 and ARCGIS 10.2, and we applied a decision-tree 
                         classification approach, that consists in divide the water bodies 
                         of 1995, 2005 e 2015 by its values of electromagnetic reflectance. 
                         In the year of 1995, we recognized 586 surface water bodies, 
                         wherein 14 of this amount ad measures above 20 ha, in 2005 we 
                         observed an increase of 40 surface water bodies, resulting 625 
                         with just 11 of them above 20 ha, this increment remains in 2015, 
                         reaching 703 surface water bodies with 14 above 20 ha. This 
                         quantification expressed in units of measurement reveals a 
                         peculiar data about the logic of its growth, since in 1995 there 
                         were 1778,13 ha or 35,83% occupied by dams, however, in 2005, 
                         despite the growth of the dams, its territorial occupation 
                         presented a decrease of 144,99 ha where we quantified 1761,68 ha, 
                         32,73%, that in the year of 2015 had again an increase, totaling 
                         1939,05 ha occupied, or 38,87% of the municipal territory. In 
                         summary, projects in this research line are relevant for 
                         identification and quantification of water bodies studies, as well 
                         as studies referring grants for artificial reservoirs.",
